Washington Glebe Engagement
A letter received from the Secretary of the above was read, the contents of which were the times & detailed arrangements. In view of this it was agreed to meet at 5.45 AM so as to leave Lynemouth at 6 AM in order to arrive at Washington at schedule time 8 AM. A letter received from the Tynemouth Bus Service confirming the times, was read, the Secretary stating that the letter bore the mark Tynemouth instead of Lynemouth, which had been immediately corrected. This was endorsed.
Ashington Coal Co’s Welfare Sports. 23 July, 1938
The Secretary stated that a letter had been received from the Supt. J. B. Kemp & that the reply had been sent informing him of our regret in not being able to attend owing to other engagements, but suggested that if he cared to change the date we would only be too pleased to render our services. To this no reply had been received, but that Mr Kemp had made other approaches via other avenues. The secretary suggested to ignore such advancements & let him correspond through the right channel.
Resignation of Chairman
Before dealing with this, the Secretary stated that it was constitutional for the Chairman to vacate the Chair & appoint a Chairman pro temp. This was done, D. Johnson taking the chair, whilst Mr Sanderson left the room.
So far as the letter intimating his resignation was concerned, the committee felt that there were some criticisms that needed clearing up & suggested that if the Chairman was prepared to withdraw these, & to accede to ruling of committee as to future behaviours, they were prepared to agree to the withdrawal of the resignation provided that Mr Sanderson was willing, & if not, the resignation would be accepted.
At this juncture, Mr Sanderson was called upon & the position was put quite clearly to him, he afterwards withdrawing his statement as contained in his letter, & also agreeing to withdraw his resignation, vouching that in future he would endeavour to show an example as Chairman of the Band.

Business of Meeting
The secretary stated that the reason of calling this meeting was due to unfair statements being made in connection with the failure of the Band turning out for programme at the Plough Inn; the Secretary being held responsible for such failure. This was discussed at some length, which led to heated arguments, the Secretary stating that he was never informed as to number of players required. Finally, it was agreed that we could get no further in the matter, & that we pass on to the next business.
Attention was drawn to the contribution due to the Band from the Workmen’s Social Club; such being due for 1937 & 38. It was agreed that the secretary write to the Club authorities, asking for their usual Donation, such letter to be sent toward the end of the year.
Financial Accounts
The Secretary reported that he had made repeated attempts to meet the Treasurer in order to have the books squared up, & the Financial priorities of the Band considered, but up to now, this had not been achieved. It was agreed that the Secretary & Treasurer get together in order to square up books as early as possible.
