Keep Calm and Carry On

The band continues to hold fundraising events including dances and raffles. Among the raffle prizes are two rabbits.

General Meeting      Sunday Nov 29th 1942

Presided by Mr W. Ball

This meeting was called by the secretary to discuss the rules of the proposed Northumberland Brass Band Victory League & to review our position as to whether we could join the league or not.

After lengthy discussion on the matter it was moved by Mr S Hall seconded W. Cochrane that due to the financial position of the Band we could not join the league.

Present -: Cochrane, Thompson, Brown, Lowdon & 3 officials

Agreed that we apply for a Dance at the Parish Hall date to be Jan 8th 1943. Agreed that we purchase two rabbits to be raffled, secretary to get 2,000 tickets in books of hundreds. To be raffled on Jan 23rd at the Colliery Institute dance.

D. Johnson

Secretary having not received any word from him agreed that we send him a final notice to appear before the committee on Dec 20th 1942.

Agreed that we put before the Band the question of Xmas playing.

Agreed we arrange Committee meeting for Dec 20th 1942.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read & confirmed.

Secretary reported that Mr D. Johnson had paid off his account, £18 – 4 – 5.

Regarding the disposal of monies in the C. W. S. Bank is was decided that we adhere to the minute agreed upon by the past committee that we pay £20 to the Midland Bank & £10 to the C. W. S. uniform A/C

Next meeting was arranged for Jan 3rd 1943.

Agreed we accept date offered by the Church Council for a Dance in the Parish Hall on Jan 8th 1943.

Mr R Lowdon offered to supply the Gents. It was agreed that we ask Mr W. Davison the President to buy the ladies.

ADVERTISING

Left in the hands of the Sec to have Bills printed & to see Mr McCoy regards having the having advertising on the screen at the pictures.

REFRESHMENTS

Sec to make inquiries regarding crockery at the Church & Chapel, also to write for 12 Doz Bottles of Mineral Waters.

Agreed that we ask Mr M Chester to attend Committee on Jan 3rd regards his offer of joining the Committee.

This meeting was called to discuss the tenders received from Dance Bands. Chairman Mr W. Ball

After discussion it was moved by W. Cochrane seconded by W. Little that we engage Jack Turner’s Swingstars for the Dance on Friday Jan 8th at the Parish Hall for the tender received, 48/-.
