Will Women Play in the Band?

Fundraising continues with the organisation of a dance and a Pie Supper. The first mention of a woman in connection with the band is at the beginning of 1927. She isn’t allowed to play, but she can stay at home and make a quilt to be raffled for band funds.

Meeting Held Dec 26

Mr Ledgerwood in the chair, minutes of previous meeting read and conformed.

 The meeting was thrown open to suggestions to improve the financial position of the Band with the result that Mr R Tindall moved and Mr Simpson Seconded that we canvass the place, and it was also moved by W Crawford Sec by Mr Rice that we ask for 1d and the committee agreed that the Secretary appoint canvassers to do the streets.

 It was also moved by Mr Thistle, Sec by Mr J Rice that we ask Mr Wilson to meet the Committee. Agreed that Dance Band be left in the hands of Secretary & Treasurer and that we see about the School Hall.

Meeting Held Feb 13 – 9 Present

 For the purpose of getting to know how the canvassing was proceeding, and to get it completed as soon as possible, and after discussion it was moved by Mr Thistle, Sec by Mr Simpson that it lie over for another fortnight till we get the Levey through.

 Pie Supper

          Moved by J Rice, Sec by Mr Crawford that we write to Mr Kemp for Information as to facilities for carrying out the same.

 Quilt

          It was moved by Mr Thistle, Sec by Mr Simpson, that we accept the services of Mrs G Morton to make a quilt in aid and that the Secretary forward £2.10 to complete the work.

Meeting Held March 10th

 The minutes of previous meeting read and conformed.

 The report on the Levey was satisfactory.

 Moved & Sec that Pie Supper Lie over till September.

 On the question of new instruments it was moved by J Rice Sec by J Tindall that the committee endorse the action of Sub Committee and give them power to act with a view to Purchase but to have the instruments on 1 months trial, and that the Secty and Chairman meet the Club Committee.

 Moved by G Thistle Sec by Tindall that we have put on concert bills the words In Aid of New Instrument Fund.

Meeting Held Mar 24

 

Minutes of previous meeting were read and conformed.

 Motion moved by J Tilly, Sec J Tindall that we interview Mr Halliday on question of finance and that the Deputation consist of Mr Thistle, McPhearson & Secretary

 Moved by Tindall Sec by Simpson that we form a Sub Committee to carry on with the concert. In respect of the Dance at Garden Fete on Whit Monday it was moved & Sec that we ask 50/50.

 In relation to dispute about Instruments it was decided that it be left over till both parties were present. Moved by Mr McPhearson, Sec Thistle.

 In respect to Stanley Hall and Allan Warlow being in other Bands it was decided to ask them to be members of our Band entirely, Hall being attached to North Seaton and Warlow to Widdrington.
